COVER STATEMENT

I began my formal anthropological training in Ireland at 17. My research interest then lay with culture, migration and the composition of identity and sameness over time. I pursued this interest during my Master’s thesis, becoming increasingly engaged in areas of anthropological theory and its real-world application, receiving a first-class honours for my dissertation.

Wishing to accrue lecturing experience, and to broaden my theoretical horizons, I began to work in Ireland and spend my summers teaching and writing in Malta (2005-2010), broadening my qualitative skills and first establishing a network with academics based at KU Leuven.

My decision to undertake my Doctoral project at KU Leuven was motivated by the desire to become an international academic, to shirk off ‘institutional incest’, to break out and to work closely with Prof. Dr. Noel Salazar.

The site also seemed the ideal location in which to examine European Identity with respect to the Irish diaspora, and using Leuven and Brussels as fieldsites in this operation allowed me to pursue this interest to its fullest extent.

Please take a look through my CV site to find out more about what I have to offer - or get in touch to discuss how I can help you on your next project.

The MA in Anthropology is an advanced degree in socio-cultural anthropology in which students are given a sophisticated introduction to the theoretical underpinnings of the discipline, a block of modules that open up and explore the conceptual and methodological core of the discipline, and a series of specialized modules that show the range of socio-cultural anthropology today. Students are also required to write a thesis. The MA in Anthropology is primarily a scholarly degree that aims to equip students for later doctoral research or for work in roles that demand academic social-scientific knowledge or the particular skills of trained ethnographic researchers.
